Fibromyalgia Relief with Chiropractic

Fibromyalgia is a condition which affects people of all ages. It often affects more women than men and GPs generally don’t offer effective solutions other than pain killers or sleep medications.

It’s a disorder that involves the connective tissues in the body and is often diagnosed as a lifelong condition. It is characterised by generalised pain or burning in muscles, ligaments and tendons or soft tissues within the body. Some signs of fibromyalgia may be aching all over, difficulty sleeping and irregular sleep patterns along with extreme fatigue. Other symptoms may be intense cervical pain or neck pain, back pain, leg cramps, chronic headaches and IBS.

Chiropractic adjustments focus on improving the alignment of the vertebrae of the neck and entire spine, thus reducing stress and interference to delicate nerves which control bodily functions. Studies indicate that regular spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustments help fibromyalgia sufferers sleep better. Studies also noted a reduction in pain and less fatigue. A study conducted in 2009 found that patients suffering with fibromyalgia often had instant pain relief after receiving chiropractic adjustments.

In addition to spinal manipulation, a type of compression therapy was also successfully used to help patients suffering with fibromyalgia. One such therapy, called ischemic compression therapy, involves applying sustained pressure to tender muscles. Sometimes these areas are called trigger points. The prolonged compression of these points deactivates the trigger. The pressure or compression therapy prevents the normal flow of blood to the affected area. When the trigger point is released normal blood flow returns to the affected area allowing for a fresh supply of oxygenated blood, which aids in healing of injured tissues and helps to cleanse the tissue of any built up waste products.

Chiropractic may be a non-invasive and natural solution for those suffering with fibromyalgia. Chiropractic allows for better communication in the body reducing the effects of pinched nerves and helps your body function optimally.
